Study 11

Text: Daniel 2:24-30

Dear Brethren,

CONCERNED FOR OTHERS AS WELL
Daniel showed great concern for "the wise men of Babylon" (Daniel 2:24). He was not just concerned that his three friends, and himself would be killed, he was also deeply concerned that other "innocent" people may be destroyed because of the king's rash command. To be concerned about others is always a good indication of the nobility of the soul.

STANDING BEFORE THE KING UNAFRAID

Daniel was soon brought before King Nebuchadnezzar himself. This mighty king ruled a vast empire at that time. His word was so powerful, that even if his order was unreasonable, nobody dared to confront him. He had a dream and he wanted to know the interpretation of that dream. He refused to divulge that dream to his advisors. They were told that they must discern what his dream was and then interpret it.

Failure to comply meant death. The order had in fact gone out, and wise men were being killed. Those who were in the forefront were probably already killed. News reached Daniel that he too would be destroyed because of the King's rash command. Daniel at this point probably was not a high ranking official, for he did not have direct access to the King at this point of time.

How would Daniel face this king who can issue rash orders? Daniel showed himself as one who was totally unafraid. He boldly spoke to the King and testified of his faith in God! (Daniel 2:28).

Courageously, he spoke these words,

"There is a God in heaven who reveals secrets,
And He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar
What will be in the latter days…
He who reveals secrets has made known to you
What will be…" Daniel 2:28-29

A CHALLENGE TO DARE TO SPEAK OF YOUR FAITH IN GOD BOLDLY

There are many who call themselves Christians. However, there are as many who are afraid of declaring that they are Christians. Many are afraid of ridicule. Others feel a sense of "shame". Still others allow themselves to become tongue-tied when it comes to bearing witness of their faith in God!

Let us be deeply challenged by the example of Daniel. He had prayed for wisdom. His prayers were answered. His faith in God was tested. He had passed the test of faith. He must have felt that the last thing he wanted to do was to feel ashamed of his faith in God. He refused to be overawed by the majesty of the king. Instead, he was filled with the Presence of God. Thus he spoke boldly of his faith in God. He introduced King Nebuchadnezzar to his God... the One who reveals secrets! What a title for God!

Prayerfully,
