Adult's Ministry
AM Bethany, as it is fondly called, is a ministry for the adults in our Church. It is a ministry to provide instruction to its leaders and to the people who come for its fellowship meetings. We seek to provide good Christian fellowship and friendship that is true. We seek to minister to all in our midst. We come from all walks of live and from many varied backgrounds. The adults ministry seeks to provide a balanced diet to each one that comes into our midst.
There are many varied programmes offered by AM Bethany. These will include the following as elaborated.
1. Sunday Bible Study Class
The Bible study programmes on Sunday morning (8.45am) seek to minister mainly to parents who bring their children for Sunday school. The Bible classes for these parents would naturally have the family in focus as it learns to apply Gods Word into their lives. It also has a new Bible study class this year, catering specially to ladies alone, as they learn to manage with the demands of children, family and even work for some of them. There will also be a third class providing instruction in specific topics of interest.
2. AM Café (AM Bethany Care and Fellowship Groups)
Biblical Christian Fellowship is a concept that we studied in Acts 2. This fellowship is a coming together of people who love the Lord and want to promote the mutual growth of each Christian. The primary concern of this group is to promote the study of Gods Word, show care and concern for each other, interest in praying for each other and the worship of God. As
we run the race of life we know that it will not be on beds of roses. We will face difficulties. We will need much encouragement. We will face discouragement. We will need much prayer support. We will fight many battles to stay alive. We need God and his people to be there for us.This fellowship is not just for the sake of receiving. It will be a group that will seek to be an encouragement. It will seek to provide what they themselves will want to receive (Mat.7: 12). It will seek to provide genuine and practical concern for each other. It will seek to provide sacrificial care for each other. We seek to do this not with our strength or our might but with the power of the Spirit of God.
We dont see Christians as wet blankets. We will offer an alternative lifestyle that is exciting and attractive. We will place our trust and hope in God that He will accomplish that which he has started.
The Café groups meet in the homes of its members. The group is divided according to the districts they live in Singapore. There are 4 such groups.
These groups meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 7.30pm.
A 5th group has been started this year catering to working adults and singles. This group meets on the 2nd Friday of each month in Church.
3. Special Programmes
We also plan special fun programmes. This is to add a bit of balance to our lives and to provide the people from Bethany a chance to integrate with each other beyond the atmosphere of the Church. The programme has in mind that the older folks enjoy an occasional outing with friends.
4. Training Programme
This year we have embarked on a special programme to equip all leaders and facilitators of AM Bethany with a better knowledge of Gods Word and to be ready to share their faith with others. The leaders/facilitators meet on the last Monday of each month at 7.00pm in Church.
Scope of AM Leadership
The principal behind this leadership is based on Ex.18: 17-26.
As Bethany continues to grow it is inevitable that it cannot continue to function as it did in the beginning. Pastor shouldered the burden to search, preach and teach in the early years. He searched for lost souls; he preached the word of God; he taught the Word that we would be steeped in the knowledge of Gods Word and be better disciples. As Bethany grew pastor was taxed even more and more.
When we moved to our new premises in Upper Paya Lebar Road, Bethany started to grow even more. There was a need to reach out to many new people coming into our midst. This was not a job for just one person. There was a need to heed the advice Jethro gave to Moses.
More people needed to come forward to help out. More people needed to be reached out to. We needed more leaders to take care of smaller groups.
We needed people to reach out to other people. We needed people to care for people.
