Text: Psalm 132 (2 Samuel 7)

REMEMBERING GOD'S PROMISE TO DAVID

"The LORD has sworn in truth to David;
He will not turn from it:
'I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.
If your sons will keep My covenant and My testimony
Which I shall teach them, their sons shall also sit upon your throne forever"
    Psalm 132:11-12

1. God's oath
"The LORD has sworn in truth to David"    Psalm 132:11a

2. God will always keep His promises
"He will not turn from it"    Psalm 132:11b

3. God will establish the throne of David and His descendants
"Theirs sons shall also sit upon your throne forever"    Psalm 132:12

ZION- THE DWELLING PLACE OF GOD
(Cf. 2 Samuel 6)


1. God's Choice- Zion
"For the LORD has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His dwelling place"
    Psalm 132:13

2.God's Desire- Zion
"This is My dwelling place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it."
    Psalm 132:14

3. God's Blessing- on Zion

a) Abundant provision promised... even for the poor
"I will abundantly bless her provision;
I will satisfy her poor with bread."
    Psalm 132:15

b) Special provision for the priests
"I will also clothe her priests with salvation,
And her saints shall shout aloud for joy"
    Psalm 132:16

c) Special provision of power for the Davidic kingdom
"There I will make the horn of David grow;
I will prepare a lamp for My anointed"
    Psalm 132:17

d) Special protection from enemies
"His enemies I will clothe with shame,
But upon Himself His crown shall flourish"
    Psalm 132:18

    i) Enemies will not prevail

    ii) Shame will be their lots

    iii) Messianic element noticeable
The Messianic Son of David and His crown will flourish

PLEADING GOD'S COVENANT WITH DAVID IN PRAYER

1. "For Your servant David's sake"    Psalm 132:10a

2. "Do not turn away the face of Your anointed"    Psalm 132:10b

3. "LORD, remember David"    Psalm 132:1a
