In Christ Alone
Oh, futile search of earth which ends in sorrow,
In Christ alone is happiness unfeigned,
Thy shallow depths reveal a broken cistern,
Thy songs are fleeting; yea, thy boasts are vain.
In Christ alone is cleansing for the guilty,
The knowledge of sin is gone, the heart is pure,
The shield of faith with which to face the battle,
The armour for the soul, a peace secure.
In Christ alone is manna for the hungry,
The well-of-water springing up within,
The Friend who sticketh closer than a brother,
He conquers death! He gives release from sin!
In Christ alone is love that knows no parting,
A joy that brings no sorrow in its wake,
He goes before; He knows the path we travel,
Tho night be deep, this Christ doth not forsake,
In Christ alone the earth shall finds its answer,
A refuge from its doubts, its fears, its strife;
This God-revealed-in-flesh, this precious Saviour,
Forever is The Way… the Truth… the Life!
